《摧花手》是導演Dario Argento的處女作。它是所謂的Animal Trilogy (動物三部曲)中的第一部，另外兩部是九尾貓 (The Cat o' Nine Tails) 和 Four Flies on Grey Velvet (1972)。影片大量取材自Fredric Brown的小說《The Screaming Mimi》。 這部電影在票房取得了巨大的成功。
